The tablets are hidden inside the blue crystals. You'll see one of these near every Obelisk. Once you smash one a tablet will pop up. You need to collect pick axes to use to break the crystals. Once a crystal has given up its tablets, when you break them again they release coins, so if you wind up with a ton of pick axes, go and smash crystals again for the coins.
