With the saw traps, there is actually a small window where you can be next to it without dying, though it looks like you should have. So they actually can place the traps like that, which require absolute precision to actually get through. But it's basically impossible for anyone trying to steal a gem, because it takes too many hit and miss attempts to figure out the "perfect" spot. It's really not fair in my opinion
