When you have 1 bomb, it absolutely will go in the direction it is pointing. When you have 2 bombs side-by-side or one on top of another, the bomb you press will be the one to go horizontal no matter which way it's oriented. I hope this helps. It took me over 100 levels to finally figure this out!
