  Drink the speed potion and you can avoid him by speed or you can do that without drinking the speed potion as he is very slow but I don't know if you can knock him out with a spell or not as I tried everything except the phoenix spell which I don't have yet, after delivering the blue root the story stops until the upcoming update, hope it helps

  How to get the blueroot since it seems hitting the golem with spells doesn't seem to work: If you use the cat form potion the golem won't attack you, although it seems spells does not affect it. When close enough to one of the blueroots return to human form and dig it up. And don't forget to drink the potion of speed. Run to the next root and dig it up as well. Now just run past the golem and head back to the fire :)
