Keep feeding your pet. Also I've found that if you double tap your pet you can then actually pet them. I do it three times a day and it gives me coins, exp and sometimes a gem.
Buy plants that you can water. Free coin every few days when you tap them ( a watering can will appear by the plant ). Visit and clean at your friends every day .
