I did a test where I encircled a group of houses with obelisks of Aswan and another group where I didn't and there was absolutely no difference in how long it took for the DNA to generate whatsoever. FYI

Research Glass Working... Once done... An upgrade tab will appear when you select the palace... you will need 25,000 gold for the upgrade... hope this helps.
