The easiest way is to keep collecting coins until you reach a new level. You'll earn between 1-3 pickaxe(s). The further along in the game you get, the longer it takes to level up. Try not to do any challenges (or limit them). It takes too long. They are helpful to get your level up faster, just don't do all of them, and believe me, they'll offer them twice a week on average.
