You can get crops out of season by spinning the reward spinner at the Game Hut and winning them. You get to spin the wheel each time you check in to get your daily reward. You can also spin the wheel as often as once every hour if you're willing to watch an ad video each time. You can also get out of season crops from trading.

Unfortunately there's no easy way to figure this out, you'll get a message on the screen when the season changes and just have to remember. If you can figure out what crops are what season that'll inform you. Winter easy bc there's snow on the ground.

I'd like to know about the colonizer boat.
Seasons are survived when they change while you are actually playing. For me it is around 6pm every other day. I had to narrow down the time by playing every six hours or so at first, and then found out they changed in the afternoon. Then I just had to sit on the hour marks for a few days until I did find it.

Ah. I'm playing on an iPhone, not leaving that on for two hours around midnight. The seasons and fire starter thing are the only things I've not completed, but seeing as this seems like a bug, I'm done... until it updates again. I'm on level 71, but the community tasks have stopped, so the game is pretty much stalled.

I had to test over many weeks as to when the season seemed to change. I always seemed to find it doing it in the evening every other day or so. Finally kept my computer on and it changed. Then I had a nice two hour window to watch it change, and I found it.
As for campfire "firestarter" I still haven't figured this one out either. I bought the small fire but it didn't do anything. So I'm still working on leveling and seeing what opens up.

Survive seasons by being online when the season changes. According to my findings, this is 6pm CST. (maybe 7 now...)

Answering my own question... after a day or so, the apple tree grew some leaves. Eventually it grew more leaves, and then eventually started producing apples. It took several days (I didn't keep track). Once the tree starts to produce, it works like a farm (5 people x 1 minute = 5 apples) and appears to be good in all seasons.

+PrtScn. The file is saved to the Screenshots folder in your Pictures folder. You can also us the Snipping Tool which is available in all versions of Windows Vista, 7, and 8 except the Starter and Basic editions.
