I believe you have to set the name at the beginning when you first start the game.

No the game doesnt decide if you get a boy or girl, if you want a certain gender you need to click on the no tutorial option and it will let you choose a name for the boy or girl

Did this for me and my daughter at first, it was because I skipped something.. I skipped the first thing, it asking me the name of the parent.

In the beginning you click girls name and not to have a tutorial and you'll get the girl;) I always do that
